Nowadays, many Europeans are emigrating to Latin Ame
rica because of the economic, financial and social crisis the old continent has been living throughout the last few years.
In spite of its own problems, the American continent is in full development and growth, which makes many people think about this as an alternative options for their future.

However, in order to start living there, you have to consider a series of determining factors, such as the real employment opportunities, the political climate, security and the cost-of-living.

One of the main indicators that allows you to evaluate which the most expensive countries to live in the Consumer Price Index index (CPI) of the World Bank, which calculates the purchasing power parity between different currencies in order to compare the size and price levels of different economies under the same parameters.

Below, a list of the most expensive countries in Latin America is provided:

Some experts believe the reason behind such a high cost-of-living is because of the overly large and inefficient government. Also, it has very high taxes, such as its VAT (23%), which is the highest in Latin America.

4. COSTA RICA: Although the small country is known for its rich natural resources that promote tourism, its stable democracy and its neutral status – the reason why it´s called “the Central American Switzerland” -, living there is really expensive. It holds one of the top positions in the ranking.
