Want to know how much you´ll be getting back for being charged too much on your electric bill?

The consumer protection association Facua has launched an App on its web page that allows users to calculate how much their electric company is going to give them back for having over paid on electric bills from January to March.

The amount to be returned is the difference between the rates fixed provisionally by the (Spanish) government and the final rates applied in the wholesale market from January to March.

According Facua, the average customer will receive a return of 33.16€ including taxes. The return will be carried out no later than the 31st of August and will be clearly marked on a separate document that the customer will receive will their bill.

For the majority of the domestic consumers, those who are under contract with the so-called Voluntary Price for the Small Consumer (PVPC) with no differentiation for the time of energy consumption, the difference established by the National Committee for Markets and Competition (CNMC) reached 23.75€ per megawatt-hour or, in other words, 2.375 euro cents per kWh.

Once value-added (VAT) and electricty taxes are added, which make up 27.19% of the total, net amount would be 3.02 cents per kWh consumed, Facua estimates.

Therefore, to calculate the amount that will be returned to you by your electric Company, a consumer only has to multiply these 3.02 cents by the number of kWh that were consumed between January and March.

And so the average consumer, which according to an analysis by Facua on more than 50,000 home electric bills consumes 366 kWh a month, will get 33.16 euros back.
